Two best friends. Ten summer trips. One last chance to fall in love.

From the
New York Times bestselling author of Beach Read comes a sparkling new novel that will leave you with the warm, hazy afterglow usually reserved for the best vacations.

Poppy and Alex. Alex and Poppy. They have nothing in common. She’s a wild child; he wears khakis. She has insatiable wanderlust; he prefers to stay home with a book. And somehow, ever since a fateful car share home from college many years ago, they are the very best of friends. For most of the year they live far apart—she’s in New York City, and he’s in their small hometown—but every summer, for a decade, they have taken one glorious week of vacation together.

Until two years ago, when they ruined everything. They haven't spoken since.

Poppy has everything she should want, but she’s stuck in a rut. When someone asks when she was last truly happy, she knows, without a doubt, it was on that ill-fated, final trip with Alex. And so, she decides to convince her best friend to take one more vacation together—lay everything on the table, make it all right. Miraculously, he agrees.

Now she has a week to fix everything. If only she can get around the one big truth that has always stood quietly in the middle of their seemingly perfect relationship. What could possibly go wrong?

Review

  • Great read

Enjoyed the characters, I thought they were well written with great growth. I read this pretty quickly, not wanting to put it down. I also found myself not knowing how I wanted it to end, but really enjoying the ride.
  • So predictable

    By WINNIESTROUD
This might be the most predictable and boring book I’ve ever read. I don’t know why I even bothered to read it after reading the back cover.
  • I Hated This Book

    By laurielulu61
This book is just snarky drivel. 44% in, 2 months of not reading. Mark it read and delete this mofo……
  • Lengthy start

Start was a bit boring. Doesn’t pick up until the end. I’m not one for the long descriptions.
  • Entertaining travel romance

Poppy and Alex are from neighboring OH towns and seem to have nothing in common when they first meet at college yet after carpooling home they become friends and begin traveling together connecting through summer trips after they graduate. Poppy is a travel writer/blogger; Alex teaches English. The story flips between present time and previous trips. Romantic feelings develop on both sides but due to childhood insecurities, they don’t address them and end up not talking for 2 years after kissing in Croatia. Good character development, fun travel locales. The romantic angst got a bit too prolonged toward the end, but they end up together and happy. Morale is adults need to deal with their childhood issues & get therapy if needed.
  • I feel like I’ve been on this vacation…

This is the first book by Emily Henry I have read. While I have not lived this type of traveling lifestyle, I still felt like I could relate with Poppy. I felt like I have had an Alex in my life. It started out a little slow at first, but then I did not want to put the book down. The glances back and forth between the summers really helped build the emotion. Every time I felt like I knew what was about to happen, a curve ball was thrown. This only kept my interest more and made it harder to put down the book. I think Emily did a great job and I cannot wait to read “Beach Read.”
  • Fantastic!

I couldn’t put this book down. I’ve been in a rut for months and unable to find something I loved reading but this one finally captured me! I love the setup with the flashbacks. Slow burn love but well worth the wait! I will be reading Beach Read next!
  • It takes time but the end is worth it.

Kind of predictable but a couple cruel twists before you get there.

  • The perfect vacation read

Easily readable with characters you feel like you know from the start. I read this over a weekend filled with other activities but kept coming back to this book during my downtime. A slow burn love story that keeps you hooked. Immediately bought “Beach Read” when I finished this to keep the feeling going. Loved it.
